What Is BOTOX?
Eyelash extensions are a popular method to achieve fuller, longer lashes that look natural and give you a complete, voluminous look without applying mascara. Eyelash extensions are made of synthetic or natural fibers, such as silk, mink, or human hair, applied to the natural lash with a semi-permanent glue adhesive.

Get to Know
How BOTOX Cosmetic Works
Many facial lines are caused by repetitive motion. When facial muscles contract, the skin around the eyelids, lips, and forehead folds. Eventually, permanent creases develop in these areas.
After BOTOX Cosmetic is injected into the muscle, it blocks the nerve impulses that cause muscle movement. When the muscles no longer contract, the skin smooths, allowing fine lines and wrinkles to soften.
The effects of the toxin typically last about 16 weeks, after which you will return for additional injections. Treatment is only $13 a unit with a minimum spend of $130 — so why not explore your options?

Is BOTOX Right for Me?
Considering Your Candidacy
Many of our Lake Tahoe and Reno area cosmetic patients are great candidates for botulinum toxin treatment. During your consultation, we will go over a few factors to ensure BOTOX is right for you.
Your Health
Since BOTOX is a non-surgical procedure, most patients qualify. However, please go over your medical history and any medications you are taking with our doctor to ensure you are not at an increased risk for side effects like eyelid drooping.
Your Skin Health
While BOTOX is approved for patients 18 and over, treatment works best for those with good skin elasticity. As you get older, your skin gradually loses elasticity and is less likely to bounce back after injections. If the skin is significantly wrinkled or gathers in loose folds, a facelift may be better for your needs.
Your Goals
The best candidates for BOTOX Cosmetic are those looking to refresh their appearance and soften fine to moderate age lines, such as creases by the eyelids. If your goal is more dramatic enhancement, we might recommend surgical treatment, or fillers like JUVÉDERM® to restore lost volume.
What Happens During BOTOX Treatment?
BOTOX is a non-surgical procedure that generally takes about 10-20 minutes, with few side effects. Here is what you can expect when you arrive at our Reno, NV, plastic surgery office for your injections.
Preparation
We begin by preparing the proper unit dosage of the botulinum toxin. Your nurse will carefully determine the optimal injection site locations to target wrinkles and preserve your facial expression. These areas of the skin are then cleaned with an alcohol solution.
Injections
We inject the botulinum toxin in approximately three to five different spots per muscle area depending on the severity and location of the wrinkles. You may feel a tiny pinch at the injection site, but most patients find that discomfort is very minimal.
Post Appointment
Once you receive your injections, you can resume your normal day. While you might feel a slight tenderness or notice some mild redness at the injection site, these side effects are temporary and should fade within a day or two.
Results and Maintenance
After a few days, the muscles at the injection site will be immobilized, and your facial lines will become less pronounced. BOTOX Cosmetic typically reaches its peak effects in about two weeks. The results of treatment usually last between three and six months, after which the muscles regain mobility. With our doctor’s approval, regular follow-up visits are safe and can produce even better results as time goes on.
Injectable Alternatives
Wrinkle Reduction Injection
You may have heard of other wrinkle-reducing injectables such as Xeomin and Dysport and wonder which type is the best. While all of these products have a similar chemical composition, Xeomin and Dysport have slightly different approved uses and lengths of duration. No one injectable is superior to others – some types may just be better suited for your needs. You can ask our doctor about alternative options if you are worried BOTOX might not be right for you.
Filler Injections
Meanwhile, we offer another category of anti-aging injectables that are quite different from BOTOX. These are known as dermal fillers. Rather than prevent muscle activity, fillers plump up the skin with a biocompatible gel. Our Reno practice uses JUVÉDERM, a popular hydraulic acid-based filler that smooths the appearance of deep wrinkles and adds volume to areas of the face. JUVÉDERM not only adds volume but also stimulates the production of collagen, leading to more youthful skin.
