Why Patients Love This Solution
The microneedling procedure only takes about 30 minutes, allowing even our busiest patients to fit treatment into their schedules.
Microneedling stimulates collagen production, so we can dramatically improve your appearance using only your body's natural healing response.
Every Skin Type
Other skin care options are only good for specific skin types, but microneedling works for all complexions and all levels of skin tightness.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, large pores, stretch marks, and other blemishes by stimulating the skin's natural ability to repair itself. During microneedling treatment at Murphy Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa in Reno, NV, our highly trained estheticians create thousands of precise micro-injuries in the dermis, automatically triggering collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation.
While the treatment is most often conducted on the face, it can produce beautiful results in other parts of the body as well.

Advanced Microneedling Treatment
Our practice uses the most advanced microneedling devices on the market. For example, we utilize the sophisticated SkinPen®. The SkinPen has a sterilized, vibrating head that rapidly and precisely creates minuscule punctures in the skin. The body reacts to these tiny wounds by creating new skin tissue. After two or three sessions, patients begin to notice their skin becoming brighter, clearer, and more youthful.
Our medical spa also offers patients from Reno, Lake Tahoe, and all of Nevada radiofrequency (RF) microneedling with the groundbreaking Potenza™ RF system. This device works similarly to the SkinPen, but once the needles penetrate the skin, they release radiofrequency energy into the dermis, which further encourages collagen formation and tissue tightening.
Finally, we also complete microneedling with PRP. By applying platelet-rich plasma to the skin after treatment, we can further stimulate the body's healing abilities and produce noticeable results more quickly.
Real Patients. Incredible Results.

Step One: Numbing Cream
The estheticians at our medical spa in Reno, NV, will begin the treatment by applying a topical numbing cream to your skin. This topical solution is not intense, but it's powerful enough to eliminate any discomfort from the needles.
Step Two: Microneedling
Next, we will gently move the SkinPen or Potenza device across your skin. It will safely and precisely make tiny wounds in order to induce the body to produce collagen.
The Potenza system also delivers radiofrequency energy to produce even more collagen. Some patients may experience very minor bleeding which won't last long.
Step Three: Serums and Creams
After the needling is complete, our skin care professionals will apply topical serums and creams to the treatment area to cleanse and protect the skin. At this point, patients who choose PRP will have the plasma applied to their skin.
Step Four: Recovery and Further Treatment
Some patients may feel very minor discomfort after the treatment, but this usually subsides quickly. Patients often have skin redness around the treatment area that should disappear in about a day.
Patients need to keep in mind that this is not a quick-fix procedure. As the body sends collagen to the micro-wounds, patients will notice their healthier skin gradually appear over a period of days or even weeks. For the best results, many patients require two or three treatment sessions.
More about SkinPen
The variable depth (ranging from .25mm to 2.5mm) of SkinPen and the cordless design provide significant versatility to create change in many areas of the body, including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.
The SkinPen is the first microneedling device in the world to be cleared by the FDA. The needle cartridges used in the device are sterilized and disposable. Because each cartridge is only used once, you don't have to worry about infections.
The actual procedure typically takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated and the severity of damage on the skin. Treatment with SkinPen results in little to no downtime for the patient.

More about RF Microneedling
We are proud to be one of the first medical spas in Nevada to utilize the state-of-the-art Potenza RF Microneedling technology. This therapy works similarly to traditional microneedling treatment, but causes the body to produce even more collagen and elastin through focused radiofrequency (RF) energy.
After the needles penetrate the skin, they quickly emit a burst of RF energy that applies heat to the underlying layers of skin. Heat causes the body to produce collagen more rapidly than needling alone. Also, because the energy is applied so deeply into the skin, results become apparent more quickly.
RF microneedling is such an exciting advancement in microneedling treatment that we now recommend it to most adults interested in this sort of skin care.

More about Microneedling with PRP
A variety of serums and creams can be applied to the skin after microneedling treatment to enhance the procedure's results. At our Reno practice, one solution we apply to the skin after treatment is platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
What Is PRP?
Human blood contains platelets which help blood clot and contribute to tissue regeneration and healing. PRP is a substance created by separating the platelets from the rest of the blood. Once PRP is separated, it can be applied topically to the skin to speed up healing and stimulate cell growth.
PRP has been used as a medical adjunct therapy for over 20 years for skin and wound healing. PRP therapy has been established as an effective medical treatment modality in the specialty fields of oral surgery, neurosurgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, sports medicine, and orthopedics. It has been used extensively in these specialties for the last two decades with generally positive outcomes and success. At this time, no claim can be made of its efficacy.
How Is PRP Created?
Blood is drawn in our office, just as if you were having blood drawn in a lab. We usually only need 8-25ml, which is less than an ounce. The blood is spun in a centrifuge and the PRP is separated and removed from the rest of the blood.
The PRP is taken from your body and is specially prepared by spinning down the blood cells to a high concentration. We use Healeon’s Medical PRP System. It is a closed sterile system and the platelets are concentrated to 3X the normal blood values. The system eliminates granulocytes that hinder tissue regeneration and wound healing.
What about At-Home Microneedling?
There are many at-home microneedling products on the market that, in theory, induce healing and soften the appearance of skin blemishes. However, we consider professional microneedling to be a far more recommendable solution for several reasons, including:
- Professional treatment is safer. Our microneedling tools are sterilized before treatment, and each needle cartridge is only used once. At-home needle rollers may sit unused in your drawer and medicine cabinet, collecting bacteria that you will then insert into your skin.
- Professional treatment is more effective. The needle rollers used in at-home treatments create angled wounds that cause unnecessary irritation to the skin, whereas our microneedling devices create straight punctures in the skin that will heal more quickly and more cleanly.
- Professional treatment is more advanced. At-home options aren't able to apply radiofrequency energy to your skin the way our Potenza system can. The cutting-edge technology available at our medical spa allows you to see noticeable results faster.
