Dealing with a sagging tummy can be difficult and discouraging when it doesn’t reflect your healthy choices. Murphy Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa is here to put an end to the days where you forfeit your bikini for a T-shirt. We know that you deserve a figure that shows how much you care for your body.
Despite a healthy diet and regular exercise, the effects of weight loss, pregnancy, aging, or genetics can make it difficult to obtain a figure that reflects your commitment to health. Even if you have lost a large amount of weight, you may struggle with extra skin and fat around your stomach.
A tummy tuck performed by Dr. James E. Murphy can eliminate excess skin and fat, tighten weakened abdominal muscles, and help you achieve a slim, shapely midsection.
At Murphy Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa in Reno, we take a personalized approach to each procedure, developing a custom plan for your tummy tuck treatment and making sure that your results stick. We care for you from the consultation to post-operation and ensure that your treatment is pleasing. We also use EXPAREL, an advanced pain reliever, to minimize discomfort and speed up your recovery.
Are You a Tummy Tuck Candidate?
To be considered for a tummy tuck, you should be in good physical health and have realistic expectations for the results of your treatment. Body contouring procedures are not weight loss shortcuts. Rather, they are designed to enhance your already healthy body and eliminate extra tissue.
Nevertheless, a tummy tuck can be a great option if you have recently undergone significant weight loss. You may be left with stretched skin that is too damaged to adhere to the new, slimmer contours of your stomach. A tummy tuck can eliminate that skin and help you achieve a better-toned physique. Similarly, a tummy tuck can improve your curves after pregnancy and childbirth.
For optimal safety, your tummy tuck will take place in a hospital. You will receive general anesthesia to keep you comfortable throughout your treatment. Once you are sedated, Dr. Murphy will create two incisions. The first will be located between your naval and pubic area, extending from hipbone to hipbone. The second incision will encircle your belly button.
Through these incisions, Dr. Murphy will trim away any damaged, stretched, or excessive tissue. He will repair separated abdominal muscles to provide you with a flatter, tauter midsection. He may also perform liposuction to eliminate stubborn fat deposits. In most cases, the doctor will also relocate your naval to a higher and more youthful position on your stomach. Finally, he will close the incisions with stitches or surgical tape.
Following your tummy tuck, you will experience some swelling and soreness. To minimize your discomfort, Dr. Murphy proudly offers EXPAREL. A single dose of this non-opioid pain medication can last up to 72 hours.
After your surgery, you will wear a compression garment to minimize discomfort, speed healing, and help your body adjust to its new shape. You should sleep with your head and upper torso slightly elevated, and you should get plenty of rest in the days following your surgery. You will need to plan to take at least two weeks off from work. However, you may need longer if you have a very physically demanding job. Avoid strenuous exercise until Dr. Murphy gives his approval.
As you recover, you will enjoy the results of your tummy tuck. Your stomach may be significantly more defined. Excess skin and fat deposits will be drastically reduced, if not eliminated. Your stretch marks may also fade. As a result, you may look years younger and pounds thinner, and you will enjoy a greater sense of self-confidence than ever before.
