Are you self conscious about the appearance of your rear end due to small or flat buttocks that don't fill out your clothing?
During the Brazilian butt lift procedure, we can use your own tissue to safely produce a rounder and fuller contour.
Find out how a Brazilian butt lift at Murphy Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa in Reno, NV, can create a more shapely appearance*...
Why Do Patients Choose to Undergo Brazilian Butt Lift?
Butt implants are associated with a number of disadvantages; their edges are often visible through the skin, they can sag over time, and they don't feel as real. With the Brazilian butt lift procedure, Dr. James Murphy uses your own fat to reshape your butt. The injections result in virtually no scarring, and the outcome is more attractive and natural-looking than implants.*
In order to harvest excess tissue for the procedure, we perform liposuction to remove unwanted fat from other areas of the body. Most commonly, fat is removed from the abdomen, hips, or thighs. This effective treatment enables us to contour more than one area of the body so you can leave our office with a thinner waist, more slender thighs, and a shapelier backside.*
Fat transfer injections to the buttocks are far less invasive than the placement of implants. Because no incisions are made in the buttocks, patients experience fewer side effects in this area, including reduced discomfort, swelling, and scarring. The Brazilian butt lift procedure safely and effectively produces a fuller, more contoured rear.*

Candidacy Factors: Is the Procedure Right for You?
In order to augment the buttocks, we need to harvest excess fat from other areas of your body. If you have unwanted, excess fat in the abdomen, hips, thighs, flanks, or back, it can be extracted during the liposuction procedure. The amount of fat that is needed varies from patient to patient. We will determine if you have enough excess fat during a consultation.
In order to retain as much fat as possible after surgery, it is important to avoid putting any pressure on the buttocks for about two weeks. Patients should avoid sitting on their buttocks or sleeping on their backs. During this time, patients should lie on their side or stomach, or use pillows to prop up the buttocks to avoid compromising the healing process.
Despite its name, lifting the buttocks isn't part of the procedure. Fat is injected and shaped in the buttocks, but the skin is not tightened during treatment. Patients at our practice that have loose, sagging skin on their rear may be better suited to a thigh or butt lift procedure. If you have tight and toned skin, the Brazilian butt lift procedure can give you fuller and rounder buttocks.*
Patients who undergo any type of surgery should be in good overall health. Certain medical conditions can increase the risk of body contouring surgery and complications. We will also discuss any medications that you take during your consultation at our practice to ensure that they don't interfere with the anesthesia or increase the risk of bleeding during or after surgery.
Smoking cigarettes or using any type of tobacco product can increase the risk of problems for patients undergoing surgery. Smoking can increase the risk of anesthesia-related complications and delay the healing of incisions. Our plastic surgeon recommends that patients who do smoke quit for at least two weeks before and four weeks after surgery.
The Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure
Because the Brazilian butt lift procedure is essentially two procedures in one, the treatment process involves three stages: liposuction, fat processing, and fat transfer.
Phase One: Liposuction
The liposuction procedure involves several steps, including:
- Anesthesia: To begin treatment, we will administer general anesthesia so you remain completely comfortable throughout treatment. With general anesthesia, patients are completely unconscious and have no memory of the procedure.
- Tumescent injections: Next, our plastic surgeon will inject a solution that contains medications to numb the treatment area, constrict the blood vessels, and cause the fat to swell. These injections make it easier to remove fat, and results in less discomfort for patients.
- Incisions: Tiny incisions are made in the treatment area so the fat can be removed.
- Fat removal: Next, a fat suctioning device called a cannula is inserted in through the incisions. The cannula is gently maneuvered around the treatment area to remove excess fat cells.
Phase Two: Process the Tissue
The fat that is collected during liposuction must be processed and cleaned before it can be injected into the buttocks. A medical device called a centrifuge is used to separate the fat cells from the other fluids that are collected during the liposuction procedure.
Once the fat cells have been isolated and carefully cleansed, they can be placed into small syringes for the fat transfer stage of treatment.
Phase Three: Fat Transfer
During the final step, Dr. Murphy will inject the fat into your buttocks. Multiple injections are administered at various depths to add fullness and balance to the backside. Because a very thin needle is used to inject the fat, there should be no visible scarring after treatment, an advantage that just can't be achieved with implants. Once we have injected the fat and achieved an attractive shape and symmetry, patients can return home to rest and recover.*

How Can Patients Maintain Their Results?
After the Brazilian butt lift procedure, there are two key things patients can do to avoid losing the transplanted fat cells: avoid sitting and exercising for several weeks.
Patients should not sit or lay directly on their butt for at least two weeks after the procedure. In addition, patients should use a donut pillow or regular pillows to avoid putting direct pressure on the buttocks until eight weeks after surgery.
Patients should also avoid exercising for six to eight weeks after treatment. Exercising at this point can cause you to lose some of the newly injected fat cells.
Keep in mind that it is normal to lose some of the transplanted fat after Brazilian butt lift. However, by following our post-surgical instructions, our Reno and Lake Tahoe patients can retain up to 70 percent of the injected fat. Typically, the final results of treatment are apparent by three months after surgery.*

What Else to Expect during Your Recovery
The Brazilian butt lift procedure does not result in nearly as much swelling, discomfort, and bruising as implant surgery. However, these side effects might be more apparent at the liposuction treatment site. Typically, over-the-counter pain medication, rest, and drinking plenty of water can help you feel more comfortable and encourage healing.
Typically, patients will need to take at least two weeks off of work to recover from surgery. Once patients do return to work, it is a good idea to use a standing desk as much as possible for the remainder of the recovery period to avoid putting pressure on the healing tissues.
While patients should avoid strenuous activity after fat transfer injections and liposuction, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and resume exercise when recovery is complete. Following a healthy diet and exercise routine is critical to maintaining the results of these and other body contouring procedures.
