If you’ve experienced the sagging effects of breastfeeding, weight fluctuation, or heredity, you’re not alone. Over time, women’s bodies change and undergo a loss of skin elasticity, which means your skin can no longer support the high, firm breast profile you would prefer. Fortunately, the breast lift procedure at Murphy Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa
can tighten and remove the excess skin to restore a perkier, more youthful bosom.
Women who have experienced the aftermath of pregnancy, age, or gravity will greatly benefit from a breast lift. If you fall into one of these categories, you may be a great candidate for a breast lift. Even those who merely want a lifted nipple or an altered areola circumference can qualify for the operation. If your breasts have never been as lifted as you’d like, contact our clinic
and get started on the process.
While there are numerous types of breast lifts, your surgeon will discuss your options with you and help you select the best one. The factors that will determine your breast lift operation are your breast shape, fullness, current size, and end goal. You may wish to supplement your breast lift with implants to increase your size.
Periareolar (Doughnut) Mastopexy
This type of breast lift treatment is performed on patients who have minimal sagging. It involves an incision around the areola and a “purse-stringing” technique on the suture to reduce the size of the areola and to reshape and lift the breast. Adding implants will add extra volume and lift.
The anchor-style incision is the more commonly used method. The surgeon will make one incision around the nipple, another vertically from the underside of the nipple to the crease under the breast, and a final incision along the contour of the crease under the breast. Variations may occur to accommodate your needs.
After your surgery, you will experience immediate swelling, soreness, and bruising. This is completely normal, and you will be prescribed pain medications to ease your discomfort. We expect that you will be feeling well enough to be up and about the day after, but in moderation. We greatly discourage raising your arms above your head or doing any heavy lifting.
Your stitches will come out after one week. In order to increase the aesthetic appeal of your results, we use a Palomar Icon 1540 laser to minimize discoloration of your scars much faster. Incisions will be pink to red but will fade out to light pink or white over time. You’ll need to continue wearing a bra with full support 24 hours a day.
After four to six weeks, you may resume more vigorous exercise and a full range of motion with your arms. Follow-up care will occur within a week after surgery and approximately every three months for the first year.
Dr. Murphy continues to care for you even months after the operation. You can expect to receive periodic phone calls from us so we can ensure that you’re doing well. We care about your satisfaction with your results as well as your health. If you experience problems, we’re on call for you 24 hours a day.
