Cleft Lip and Palate Repair – Reno and Lake Tahoe, Nevada – Testimonials

Hi, My name is Keila. I am two years old. I was born with a cleft lip and palate. My parents, Jesus and Maria, were waiting for me for about six years. When my mom got pregnant, they were very excited and happy. They did not know about my condition, until I was born; then they were searching for information and help.

Norma Alvarado from Nevada Early Intervention told my dad about Doctor James Murphy: She told him “he is the best plastic surgeon in Reno”, and now I can tell everybody that it is true.

I had my first surgery (lip) when I was four months old, the second (soft palate) when I was eight months old, and the third (hard palate) when I was fourteen months.

Okay, This is my big little history, and I only want to say:

Dear Doctor Murphy,

Thank-you for doing my surgery for free. I know that it cost a lot of money to do my surgery. I know that you didn’t have to do it but I’m glad you did. Since my mom home schools us and goes to school, we don’t have a lot of money. It means a lot to me that you did this for me! Since you did the surgery on my throat, my voice sounds different. I’m still learning how to talk. Some words are easier than others.  It’s hard to be different/

People have always talked about my brain injury. I see a lot of doctors. Sometimes they talk to my mom even though I’m in the room. You didn;t do that. You looked right at me and you talked to me. I hope you like the present we got for you. My mom said you might. She used it when hurt her neck, but now she uses it, because she says it keeps her face from getting squashed at night. Thank you again. I hope I see you again someday.
